The XR Graveyard: Products, Platforms and Companies That Have Shut Down
The XR Graveyard is a dated record of XR hardware that is no longer sold, software with a published end of support date and companies whose websites no longer resolve. Every entry links to the document that establishes it. It exists because vendor lists across the industry keep recommending products that cannot be bought.
In short:
- The nearest deadline is December 31, 2026. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Guides and Remote Assist reach end of support on that date, and Microsoft states the apps will stop working.
- Both enterprise see-through headset lines are gone. Microsoft's HoloLens 2 is no longer manufactured and Magic Leap's direct sales ended March 31, 2026.
- An absent website is not proof a company closed. Three widely listed vendors serve nothing at their own domain, and what became of them is not documented in any primary source.
- Not every absence is a death. Five companies still on current XR shortlists were acquired or renamed rather than shut down, which means some lists name the same supplier twice.
How this record was built
An entry qualifies on one of four tests, and the test it passed is stated in its row.

Two things are deliberately excluded. Products that are merely superseded by a newer model stay out, because a Quest 3 owner is not affected by a Quest 4. So do companies that have gone quiet without any checkable change, because silence is not evidence.
Nothing here is inferred. Where a company's fate is not documented, the row says so rather than guessing.

Microsoft's HoloLens 2 page states the device is no longer manufactured and out of stock in all geographies. Monthly security updates and developer support run through December 31, 2027, and a longer UK Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Act minimum period runs to February 28, 2028 for units bought by February 28, 2025. Magic Leap is the case that shows why "shut down" is the wrong verb for most of this list. The company still operates. It stopped selling Magic Leap 2 and repositioned as a waveguide supplier, and support for existing devices runs through December 31, 2027. The product died, not the company.

The Microsoft cluster is the consequential one. Guides and Remote Assist are the two products most enterprise AR programs were built on between 2019 and 2024, and their end of support falls on the same day. Microsoft states that subscriptions could be renewed only until November 1, 2025 and that the apps will no longer be functional after December 31, 2026. Organizations running either of them are choosing a replacement now, and BestInXR covers both categories: companies building guided work software and companies building AR remote assistance.
Meta's business program is a quieter loss with a longer tail. Consumer Quest 3 and 3S sales continue, so a company can still buy retail units, without the commercial license, warranty or fleet management that came with the program. BestInXR's Meta Quest reference carries the dates.
Microsoft Mixed Reality Capture Studios has no lifecycle page at all. Its former address at microsoft.com/en-us/mixed-reality/capture-studios redirects to a Microsoft Learn URL that returns "404 Page not found", checked September 16, 2026. That is an absence rather than an announcement, so it is recorded as one.
Announced, then not carried out
One shutdown on this page was published by the company and then did not happen, which is worth recording precisely because most lists still repeat the announcement.
Meta's announcement of 2026 changes to Quest stated that "the Horizon Worlds app will be removed from Quest" after June 15, 2026 and that Worlds would no longer be available in VR. That same page now carries a note reading "Outdated news. Meta CEO says existing worlds will stay in VR". The removal did not go ahead as published.
Two smaller items in the same announcement did take effect on their stated dates: Horizon Central, Events Arena, Kaiju and Bobber Bay were removed from VR by March 31, 2026, and Horizon-specific Meta Horizon Plus perks were removed from the subscription on the same date.
The lesson for anyone maintaining a list like this one is that an announcement is evidence of an intention, not of an outcome. Every entry above is dated to the event rather than to the announcement of it.
Companies whose websites no longer resolve
These three appear on current XR shortlists elsewhere and serve nothing at their own domain. Checked September 16, 2026.

What became of these businesses is not documented in any primary source, and this record does not guess. A domain that stops resolving is consistent with a closure, an acquisition, a rebrand or a lapsed renewal, and those are different facts.
The practical point is narrower and checkable. Anyone shortlisting from an article written a year ago will still have these companies near the top of it. BestInXR excludes each of them from the relevant list and says why, in city-scale digital twins, volumetric video and police training.
Absorbed rather than closed
A company that was acquired is still a supplier, under a different name and often with a different roadmap. These belong in the record because stale lists name both the old and the new entity, which makes one supplier look like two.

Elevate Healthcare is also a domain trap. It operates at elevatehealth.net. The similar elevatehealthcare.com does not resolve, and elevate-healthcare.com and elevatehealthcare.net are parked domains listed for sale.
What to do if you own something on this list
Start with the date, not the product. A withdrawn product you already own keeps working; a dated end of support is a deadline with a budget attached.
If you run Dynamics 365 Guides or Remote Assist, December 31, 2026 is the date the applications stop functioning, not the date support becomes best effort. Authoring content that has to be migrated is the part that takes longest, so the authoring format is the thing to establish first with any replacement vendor.
If you run a HoloLens 2 fleet, the hardware is the constraint rather than the software. Security servicing runs through December 2027, and the realistic options are maintaining the existing application, porting it or rebuilding the workflow on a passthrough headset. OpenXR projects port with less rework than projects built on the older Windows Mixed Reality APIs.
If you are shortlisting from an article, check the vendor's own domain before the vendor's claims. Three of the companies above still appear on lists that were accurate when written. A DNS lookup takes a second and catches a category of error that reading the article again never will.

4. Which Meta Quest headsets are discontinued?
Quest 2 and Quest Pro. The Quest Pro product page reads "Meta Quest Pro is no longer available" and points buyers to Quest 3. Quest 2 was discontinued after the Quest 3S announcement of September 25, 2024. Quest 3 and Quest 3S remain on sale.
5. What happened to Cityzenith, Metastage and Wrap Reality?
Their domains no longer serve a website, and no primary source documents what became of the businesses. Cityzenith and Metastage resolve to no web server, and wrapreality.com is parked on a domain marketplace. Each is excluded from the relevant BestInXR list for that reason.
6. Did Meta remove Horizon Worlds from Quest headsets?
No. Meta announced that the app would be removed after June 15, 2026, and that announcement page now carries a note reading "Outdated news. Meta CEO says existing worlds will stay in VR". Other changes in the same announcement, including the removal of four first-party worlds by March 31, 2026, did take effect.
