Pico XR is the headset business of ByteDance, the company that also owns TikTok. It sells standalone VR and mixed reality headsets, motion trackers, an app store and enterprise management tools. Who owns Pico and where is it based?
ByteDance owns Pico. Pico was founded in 2015 and an internal Pico memo confirmed the acquisition on August 30, 2021. The price was never officially announced.
Pico operates through Pico Technology Co., Ltd. and Pico Immersive Pte. Ltd. Its privacy policy gives a Beijing address in Haidian District plus addresses in Qingdao, San Francisco and Tokyo, but that policy is dated February 26, 2018, so treat the non-Beijing offices as unconfirmed. Pico's developer terms, updated December 12, 2024, are issued by Pico Immersive Pte. Ltd. under Singapore law.
Founder Zhou Hongwei stepped down as head of Pico in July 2026 and Li Xiaokai, who joined in 2021 to lead core product and technology, took over. 36Kr reported the change on July 21, 2026, citing a Pico internal notice, and TechNode confirmed it on July 24.

Pico 4 Ultra
The Pico 4 Ultra is Pico's current consumer headset and its first with color passthrough. Pico's spec page lists 2160 x 2160 per eye, 90 Hz, a 105 degree field of view, Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, two 32 MP passthrough cameras, a 5700 mAh battery and Wi-Fi 7. The product page states it "weighs approximately 580g (±3g)." It shipped in China on September 2, 2024 at ¥4,300 and went on sale in 18 European and Asia-Pacific markets on September 20, 2024 at £530 and €600.
Pico 4 Ultra Enterprise
The Pico 4 Ultra Enterprise is the same core hardware sold with enterprise software and support. Pico's spec page repeats the consumer figures, and the US business site adds a 16 GB configuration at $1,199 USD MSRP alongside the 12 GB model at $850. Pico publishes no weight for this model. The difference is software: it runs Pico's Enterprise OS with business accounts, the Pico Business Store and support for Pico Business Suite and Business Device Manager.
Pico 4 Enterprise
The Pico 4 Enterprise is the previous business headset, announced in October 2022 at €900. Pico's product page lists a 4320 x 2160 combined display, 90 Hz, a first-generation Snapdragon XR2, 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage, eye and face tracking and 300 g without head straps. Pico still hosts the page but the headset is missing from its pricing page.
Pico G3
The Pico G3 is a three degrees of freedom headset for seated video, training and tourism content. Pico's US spec page lists a single 3664 x 1920 display, 72 Hz or 90 Hz, a Qualcomm XR2, 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, 604 g total weight and Android 10. It costs $480 USD MSRP.
Project Swan
Project Swan is the codename for Pico's next flagship, announced on March 2, 2026 with Pico OS 6. Per Road to VR and SiliconANGLE reporting that day, Pico claims micro-OLED panels approaching 4,000 pixels per inch, about 40 pixels per degree on average and a dual-chip design with a custom Pico chip at roughly 12 milliseconds of latency. Pico gave a late 2026 global launch window and opened a Global Early Access Program. Price, weight, final name and regions are not announced. The Khronos Group's OpenXR register shows a ByteDance entry named "Project Swan" passing conformance on April 10, 2026, running "Android 16/Pico OS6."
Where is Pico available and is Pico sold in the US?
Pico sells consumer headsets in Europe, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia and China, but not in the United States or Canada. When the Pico 4 Ultra launched in September 2024, UploadVR reported that ByteDance had no plans to launch it in North America, as with the Pico 4 in 2022.
Enterprise is different. Pico runs a US version of its business site with the Pico 4 Ultra Enterprise, G3 and Neo3 quoted in US dollars and a sales contact form, so US businesses can buy through Pico's channel partners.
For Project Swan, Pico has said only "global launch" and "late 2026." As of a VR Expert summary dated August 14, 2026, regional availability had not been announced.
Pico vs Quest 3: how the consumer headsets compare
Both run the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2, so the differences are display, memory, refresh rate and where you can buy. The Khronos conformance register lists the Pico 4 Ultra runtime on "Android14" and Project Swan on "Android 16/Pico OS6," while Pico's G3 spec page lists Android 10. Khronos lists ByteDance runtimes as OpenXR conformant for the PICO Neo3 and PICO 4 (December 2022), the Pico 4 Ultra (OpenXR 1.1, November 18, 2024), Project Swan (April 10, 2026) and a Pico PC Runtime for Windows 11 (OpenXR 1.1, August 1, 2026).
Unity and Unreal SDKs
Pico's developer site documents a PICO Unity OpenXR SDK at version 1.4.0 and states that the PICO Unity Integration SDK now supports the Unity OpenXR plugin. For Unreal it documents a PICO Unreal OpenXR Plugin at version 1.6.0 with an Unreal Engine 5 section. Pico's Enterprise OS page says the Enterprise SDK supports Unity, Unreal, OpenXR and WebXR and is free for business users.
