This is some text inside of a div block.

ShapesXR is a spatial design and prototyping tool from Shapes Corp. that lets teams build, review and prototype 3D and XR experiences inside a headset or a web browser. It runs on Meta Quest, Pico and Samsung Galaxy XR. It imports Figma files, exports to Unity, glTF and USDZ and has a free Starter plan with quote-based paid tiers.

In short:

  • What it is: A collaborative 3D design and prototyping app for XR, with a headset app and a browser editor that share the same spaces.
  • What it is not: A game engine. Interactions come from preset triggers and finished designs are handed to Unity or Unreal.
  • Where it runs: Meta Quest 2, Quest Pro and Quest 3, Pico 4 headsets, Samsung Galaxy XR and the web. No Apple Vision Pro or Steam listing was found.
  • What it costs: Starter is free. Professional, Business and Enterprise show no price and route to a quote.

What is ShapesXR?

ShapesXR is a design and prototyping tool for spatial apps and games. Its documentation describes it as a way to create in 3D without game engine experience, importing 3D models, Figma UI or sound files, with real-time co-creation across virtual reality, mixed reality and the web. The app launched on Meta Quest on November 11, 2021, per UploadVR. Shapes 2.0 shipped on June 18, 2024 and added the web editor.

Who makes ShapesXR?

ShapesXR is made by Shapes Corp. The name appears in the site footer and on the store listings. The founder and CEO is Inga Petryaevskaya, as reported by Road to VR and SiliconANGLE in August 2023. The company's LinkedIn page lists San Mateo, California as headquarters and a 2017 founding year. SiliconANGLE's August 2023 report gives 2016 instead.

Shapes Corp. raised an $8.6 million seed round announced on August 9, 2023, led by Supernode Global. At the time the company said the money would fund versions for Apple Vision Pro, Pico and Magic Leap. Later rounds: not disclosed.

Which devices and platforms does ShapesXR support?

ShapesXR runs on Meta Quest, Pico and Samsung Galaxy XR headsets and in a web browser. The documentation's compatibility page lists Meta Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3, Pico 4, Pico 4 Ultra and Galaxy XR, with free downloads from the Meta Quest Store, the Pico Store and Google Play.

What can you do in ShapesXR?

ShapesXR covers four jobs: building 3D scenes, collaborating in them, wiring up interactions and handing the result to a game engine.

Collaboration

Spaces are shared in real time between the headset app and the Web Editor. The documentation recommends no more than 15 to 20 users in one session. Paid plans add roles and permissions from an admin dashboard.

Figma import

Figma files come in through a ShapesXR plugin inside Figma or by pasting a Figma link into the web dashboard. A Sync all button pulls later Figma changes into the space. Free accounts get 20 exports through the plugin and paid plans get unlimited exports. Business plans can also import playable Figma prototypes.

Unity and Unreal handoff

A Unity plugin imports ShapesXR spaces into the Unity Editor, keeping scenes and viewpoints, so developers can swap placeholder models and add interactive elements. Unity 6 is recommended. Export from Unity back to ShapesXR is not supported.

There is no Unreal plugin. The documented route into Unreal Engine 5 is manual: export the space as USDZ, rename it to .zip, extract the .usdc file and import it with Unreal's USD Importer plugin.

Export formats and asset library

ShapesXR exports glTF and USDZ. The built-in library holds ready-made models in categories such as architecture, furniture and nature, plus 3D primitives, procedural primitives and UI textures. Starter includes an individual asset library and Business adds a shared team library.

Prototyping and mixed reality

Interactions are assembled from triggers and actions without code. Documented triggers are On Click, On Hover, On Touch, On Button, On Collision, Frame Enter and After Delay. The headset app also has a passthrough mode, room-scale mode using spatial anchors and an AR headset simulation that shows the field of view of AR devices.

How much does ShapesXR cost?

ShapesXR has a free Starter plan and three paid tiers that show no price on the pricing page. Professional and Enterprise use a Get a quote button. Business offers a 14-day free trial with no credit card. No dollar amount appears on the page as of September 3, 2026, and per-seat counts are not listed.

What are the alternatives to ShapesXR?

This is a list, not a ranking.

  • Gravity Sketch. An immersive 3D workspace for ideation, in its own words. Its January 14, 2026 pricing update keeps a Free tier with the creation tools, up to 3 people in a room and 150 MB of storage. Downloads are through the Meta and Steam stores plus a web app.
  • Bezi. Formerly a browser-based collaborative 3D design tool. As of September 3, 2026 its site describes an AI assistant for Unity developers that runs as a Unity Editor plugin, announced on Unity Discussions on February 11, 2026. The earlier 3D editor is no longer described on the site.
  • Figma with visionOS resources. Figma stays a 2D tool. Apple publishes a visionOS 26 UI Kit for Figma on its Design Resources page, and ShapesXR's own plugin exists to move those frames into 3D.
  • Unity XR Interaction Toolkit. Unity's own component-based interaction system for VR and AR. Version 3.4.1 requires Unity 2022.3 or later. A development framework, not a design tool.
